Note: We have no connection to Paw Naturaw or the other dog food companies mentioned.
We have a French Bulldog, a breed notorious for flatulence. His breeder had started him off with Eukan*ba Natural Lamb & Rice for Puppies. Wanting to give him the best that we could, we tried numerous, premium, grain-free, dry foods including: Inn*va, Calif*rnia Natur*l, Merr*ck, Now! Grain-Fr*e, and Karma Org*nic. During gradual transitions between brands, he'd always have bloating and gas, sometimes diarrhea. ALL the dry foods gave him bloating and gas, even the reputedly better brands.
After more research we found out what's *really* in dry dog food and decided to change his diet immediately. We also found out about species-appropriate, raw feeding. We wanted to stop the kibble sooner than later so we did a rapid transition of only 3 days. We'd supplement the Paw Naturaw with Soj*s, Honest Kitch*n, and home-prepared veggies and fruits. We're careful about safe food preparation and haven't had trouble with pathogens.
Pros: even with the quick changeover onto Paw Naturaw our pup had no issues: no diarrhea, no bloating, and now, absolutely no more gas! He used to clear the room with his stink bombs. He also used to have overpowering "doggy odor," even after a bath. On the raw diet the heavy doggy odor's gone. Now he has a cleaner, subtle scent. His stools are normal. He also has more energy and he's more even-tempered. He's eager to eat, whereas on dry food there'd be days he'd refuse to eat and would be moody.
Cons: raw, organic, dog food does cost more per pound than kibble. Roughly double the cost depending on which brand and what size bag. Shipping through Amazon.com helps offset the cost a bit. Feeding raw takes a little more planning and prep, but not much: just thaw overnight, mix, and weigh out portions for the day in covered glass or ceramic containers. Takes no more than 10-15 min. Having a small digital scale and several, same size, bowls on hand make prep easier.
We're thinking long-term and feel that his health and well-being are well worth giving up the convenience and lower cost of kibble. If we'd known about raw feeding before we wouldn't have fed him kibble at all. Although this way, we did see the stark contrast between the results of raw vs. processed food. In short: our pup's indigestion and gas-free, has more energy, and is healthier and happier on a raw diet. The clear results speak for themselves and we hope that Paw Naturaw keeps up the good work.Get more detail about
